DP23 / DP23M Camera Firmware Updater

General

This software updates the firmware of the following Evident camera models to the given versions:

  • DP23 (DP23-CU Type 2) → update to version 3.1.22316
  • DP23M (DP23M-CU Type 2) → update to version 3.1.22316

The camera’s model designation and type information are given on its type-plate. Cameras other than the models listed above are not supported by this version of the software.

Changes / Corrections

The new firmware version corrects the following issues:

  • Depending on the selected camera mirroring setting, subarrays with a height of <29 pixels that are either located at the upper or lower image border are underexposed (DP23, DP23M).
  • Hot pixel correction not working correctly in high sensitivity mode (DP23M).

Affected Cameras

Evident cameras within the following serial number ranges are affected:

  • DP23: SN 68200001–SN 68207661
  • DP23M: SN 70200001–SN 70200608

The serial number of the camera can be found on its type-plate and on the barcode label that is attached to the packaging box.

The current firmware version of the camera can also be verified inside the Evident application software.

To do so, please start your Evident application (e.g., cellSens™ software, OLYMPUS Stream software, PRECiV™ software, DP2-TWAIN) and check the information given under Device Settings → Camera → Information. To access the device settings, please open the Acquire menu (PRECiV: Gear button in the program’s title bar) → Devices → “Device Settings…”

Cameras with a firmware version lower than “3.1.18980” need to be updated.

Cameras with a firmware version lower than 3.1.22316 need to be updated.

Installation Procedure

Before installation

  1. This software comes with an EVIDENT END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT. Prior to downloading the software, please read the EVIDENT END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT. By downloading the software, you are agreeing to the terms of this AGREEMENT. 
  2. The software cannot be installed and used unless the user has read/write access to the local PC storage (HDD, SDD). If the user account is registered as a Restricted Account, change it to the Computer Administrator account or change the granted user privileges. (For user account registration, refer to the instruction manual for your PC.)
  3. Close all other running applications before executing the firmware update.

Download procedure

  1. Click the Download button at the top of this page.
    Download file name: EVIDENTCameraFirmwareUpdater.zip (approximately 18 MB).
  2. When an entry form appears, enter all required fields.
  3. Please save or copy the file to a folder on the local hard disk (HDD/SDD) of the PC the camera(s) is/are connected to and to which you have read/write privileges.
  4. Do not start the installer before performing the following steps. 

Updating the firmware

  1. Connect the camera(s) if not already connected to the PC.
  2. Make sure all cameras are present in the Windows Device Manager.
  3. Make sure the camera driver is listed as “OLYMPUS Digital Microscope Camera.”

    Re-install the camera device driver in case the connected cameras are not listed as shown above.​
     
  4. Close all running applications.
  5. Open the local HDD/SDD folder, which contains the downloaded “EVIDENT Camera Firmware Updater” ZIP file in Windows Explorer. Extract the file.

  6. Start the Updater by double-clicking on the “EVIDENTCameraFirmwareUpdater.exe” file.
  7. The Firmware updater will list all updatable cameras. Click the Start button to initiate the firmware update.

  8. The software identifies the camera’s current firmware version and presents a message in case the firmware is already up to date.

    In this case, it is unnecessary to perform a firmware update. 
     
  9. Wait for the update process to complete (this may take a few minutes).

    In case more than one updatable camera is connected to the system, steps 8 and 9 will be repeated automatically for each camera until the last one is updated.
     
  10. After the firmware update is successfully completed, click the Close button to exit the firmware updater.
  11. All updated cameras are now ready to use.

Caution:

Do NOT disconnect the camera or switch off your computer while the firmware is being updated. 

Do NOT shut down or force quit the firmware updater software while the firmware update is running.

Do NOT start/run any application software other than the firmware updater while the update is in progress.

Not following the instructions mentioned above might permanently render the camera inoperable.

Should an error message occur during the firmware update, do NOT disconnect the camera, but repeat the update process for this camera until the update is performed successfully. Close the firmware updater software and restart it before repeating the update process. Click the Yes button in step 8 if the message is shown for the camera that failed the firmware update. Do not repeat the update for other connected cameras that were already updated successfully.
