Live Cell Imaging Microscopy to Study Cell Polarity Establishment

Proper establishment of cell polarity is critical for stem cell lineage and development. Any error in the polarity establishment can lead to defects during development and self-renewal of stem cells.

In the one-cell stage of the C. elegans embryonic centrosome, the localized signal is critical for regulating polarity establishment, yet the key component for this process was unknown until now.

In this webinar, we shall discuss our new finding of the role of the evolutionarily conserved Aurora A kinase in accurate polarity establishment via the modulation of actomyosin-based contractility through RhoGEF ECT2.

We will also discuss how the Olympus FV3000 confocal microscope was optimized for fixed and live cell imaging and used effectively for our experiments.

Dr. Sachin Kotak holds a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Germany. He completed his post-doctoral work in Cell Biology from the Swiss Institute of Experimental Cancer Research-EPFL, Switzerland. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology at the Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore, India. His lab studies the mechanisms of spindle orientation and polarity establishment in animal cells.
